Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible to perform general maintenance work and recommend maintenance solutions and purchase requests in university residential facilities. Work performed will include electric, plumbing, carpentry and custodial work.

• Responsible for recommending maintenance solutions and purchase requests to the Coordinator of Operational Services and Director of Housing.
• Assess maintenance/repair requests/work orders, evaluate the necessary tools/equipment needed to make the repair and complete the maintenance/repair, or, follow University and Housing protocol to make a recommendation/request the purchase of item(s) to make the necessary repair, or refer the issue to Facilities Management or approved vendors to complete the work that the position may not be able to complete.
• Perform minor repairs and tasks, including but not limited to, moving furniture, painting, repair room furnishings such as furniture, ceiling tiles, blinds, bathroom fixtures, mailboxes, replacing light bulbs and electrical plugs and switches, resetting breakers, unclogging toilets, and troubleshooting work orders.
• Use power tools, screwdrivers, hammer, electric outlet tester, and other equipment as needed.
• Maintain records of work completed.
• Verify all vendor work is completed as appropriate, indicate invoices are ready for payment, and provide appropriate information to the Director of Housing.
• Report and escalate facility and repair issues to supervisor as appropriate
• Train, schedule, coordinate and evaluate student workers. Assign daily jobs, approve timesheets and ensure work is completed in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Represent the Housing department in communications with vendors, students and campus staff.
• Duties may also include checking chemicals of an outdoor pool and other maintenance on the pool as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:

• Two years of previous experience in custodial techniques, general mechanical maintenance, and/or general knowledge of the following skill trades: plumbing, electrical, painting, and/or carpentry.
• Ability to follow written and verbal communication, work independently, good communication skills, ability to plan and make decisions. Thorough knowledge of safe working procedures.
• Carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, and custodial. Must possess a valid driver's license and meet the requirements to operate a University vehicle.
• Ability to understand and follow protocol to ensure compliance with the University's policies and procedures.
• Ability to apply independent judgement when troubleshooting work orders and maintenance requests.

Hourly Rate: $15.63 (Additional pay dependent upon qualifications)

Work Hours:

• Normal work hours with occasional overtime during various closing and opening times. Must be able to lift 50 to 75 pounds. Use of a ladder up to 10 feet.
• Will be required to respond after hours when needed.
