The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a mid-career Obstetrics and Gynecology physician for a leadership position as Vice Chair or Associate Vice Chair of Education. This is a full-time faculty member position at the Associate Professor or Full Professor without tenure due to funding (WOT) level. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research/scholarship, and service.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Oversee educational strategic planning and integration across our program.
  • Participate in decisions regarding educational initiatives, programs, and recruitment.
  • Develop and monitor annual educational budget and pursue other funding sources for education.
  • Collaborate with clinician educators and the directors of the medical student clerkship, OBGYN residency program, and subspecialty fellowships to ensure educational innovation, maintain robust educational program, and enhance departmental educational climate.
  • Promote educational scholarship, research, and innovative curricular development.
  • Enhance faculty development thru mentorship, champion teaching best practices, and coach faculty.
  • Advise and mentor the directors of the medical student, residency, and fellowship programs.
  • The successful candidate would be expected to engage, inspire, and work with clinical faculty and clinician educators across our department and within a large, diverse organization and exhibit excellence in clinical medicine.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is directly responsible for multiple large and ongoing educational endeavors including a large, multi-site residency program and five subspecialty fellowships. At the UME level the department oversees the OBGYN 3rd year Clerkship for 280 students per year across 47 sites in five states, 4 th year OBGYN electives, and the second-year LifeCycle which is taught in six different sites.

Associate and Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The earliest anticipated start date is January 1, 2025.

The salary range for this position will be: $22,500 - $33,334 per month ($270,000 - $400,008 annually) with competitive total compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Qualifications

In summary, the minimum requirements are:

  • MD, DO degree or foreign equivalent
  • Board certification in general Obstetrics and Gynecology or subspecialty or foreign equivalent
  • Expertise in undergraduate and/or graduate medical education (residency, fellowship programs)
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience and at least 5 years of scholarly productivity in education
  • Strong record of mentorship and faculty development

All candidates must be eligible for and maintain a Washington State medical license. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
