Nutritionist

Job Summary:

Barnard College invites applications for a passionate and knowledgeable Nutritionist to join our Primary Care Health Service team. This part-time clinical role is integral to providing intuitive eating-based comprehensive nutrition counseling for disease prevention and health promotion. This role requires expertise in eating disorders, medical nutrition therapy, team-based collaboration, and the ability to create and implement comprehensive treatment plans. The Nutritionist will be vital in fostering a supportive community tailored to our diverse student body.

Job Description:

Direct Patient Care:

  • Provides individual comprehensive nutrition assessments and consultations to students referred by Health and wellness Clinicians
  • Develop and implement personalized treatment plans for students based on assessment of nutritional and health needs and grounded in behavior-focused rather than weight-focused philosophies.
  • Provide ongoing follow-up care and manage patients with nutrition-related conditions using goal-oriented approaches.
  • Offer medical nutrition therapy for a range of clinical conditions.
  • Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on student progress and clinical outcomes.
  • Document all pertinent data in the patient's electronic health record.
  • Refer to physicians or other providers when indicated.
  • Conduct group counseling sessions on nutritional topics relevant to the student population.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and evaluation goal attainment.

Collaboration/Consultation:

  • Participate in case conferences and the joint management of patients as a member of the Eating Disorders Team. Report in a timely way on any patient of concern, primarily where a need for urgent medical assessment exists.
  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare team members as the staff nutrition consultant.
  • Work with dining services to create and follow best practices for students with disordered eating and other metabolic conditions.
  • Participate in PCHS staff meeting meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Provide consultation in the development of nutrition-based policies and procedures.
  • Provide direction and support for nutrition-related health education programming.

Community Building Campus Outreach and Education:

  • Provide leadership in planning, conducting, and evaluating nutrition education through facilitating group discussions
  • Conduct and participate in campus workshops and presentations on nutrition.
  • Foster a sense of community and belonging among students, encouraging open dialogue about nutrition and mental health.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of clinical care and treatment plans using the electronic health record.
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA and all relevant laws and regulations regarding student health and confidentiality.
  • Participate in continuous professional development to stay current with best practices in nutrition and eating disorder treatment.

Professional Performance/Standard Compliance and Quality Assurance

  • Maintain current certification through the Commission on Dietetic Registration and/or licensure of the New York State Education Department.
  • Actively support and participate in Student Health Service Quality Assurance
  • activities.
  • Attend professional continuing education activities and conferences and submit copies of attendance documentation to the supervisor.
  • Develop and evaluate own goals for professional growth.
  • Participate in annual performance evaluations.
  • Research current nutrition literature and participate in creating and updating nutrition literature for the Health Service.
  • Demonstrate a trauma-informed approach and commitment to supporting diverse student populations.
  • Update computer skills as required for documentation of patient records.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Required Qualification

  • Current certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration and/or current licensure from the New York State Education Department Registered Dietitian
  • Bachelor of Science in Nutrition or Dietetics
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of related experience
  • Prior experience working with clients with histories of disordered eating.
  • Prior experience with medical nutrition therapy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive community for all students.

Preferred Qualification Summary

  • Master of Science in Nutrition or Dietetics
  • Prior experience in a college or university health service
  • Prior experience with electronic health records.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the developmental issues of adolescence
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Relevant computer skills

This is a part time, in person role at 17.5 hours per week, between the hours of 9am - 5pm, Monday through Friday. Schedule to be determined upon hire

Salary Range : $ 37,500 - $42,000 annually

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
