Job Description
SUMMARY
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. This role is crucial in maintaining accurate financial records, processing payroll, and administering employee benefits. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements while providing exceptional support to our employees and management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Accounting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable, and payroll/benefits.
- Prepare financial statements and reports.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of tax filings and audits.
Payroll Processing:
- Process bi-monthly payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Calculate and process deductions, withholdings, and garnishments as required.
- Maintain payroll records and prepare payroll reports for management review.
- Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries and discrepancies promptly.
- Ensure timely submission of payroll taxes and other payroll-related payments.
Benefits Administration:
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other company-provided benefits.
- Coordinate enrollment, changes, and terminations of benefits coverage.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding payroll and benefits, providing timely and accurate information and assistance.
- Work with benefits providers to resolve issues and ensure accurate/timely processing.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of benefits regulations and industry trends.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Collaborate across Bonfire to ensure seamless integration of payroll and benefits.
- Assist with special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Controller.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial and payroll processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years experience in accounting, payroll processing, and benefits admin.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite) and payroll systems (e.g., Paycom).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, payroll practices, and benefits regulations.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of a BA; CPA and/or MBA a plus.
- 3-5 years relevant experience, ideally a mix of public accounting or financial consulting plus industry experience. Direct payroll and benefits experience a strong plus.
- Consistent access to a reasonably distraction free home work space, with reliable access to high-speed internet and use of a smart phone/mobile device.
- Technologically savvy, with strong computer skills and the ability to embrace and adapt to changes to technology that is critical to how we work.
- Good working knowledge of the primary Google business, productivity and collaboration tools/software and strong excel skills.
- Good working knowledge of the primary Microsoft Office programs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Includes but are not limited to:
- Ability to Sit for Extended Periods: The job will likely require the candidate to sit at a desk and work on a computer for long periods.
- Manual Dexterity: The ability to use a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
- Visual Ability: The job requires the ability to read detailed financial reports, spreadsheets, and computer screens.
- Communication Skills: The ability to communicate effectively in person, via zoom, over the phone, and via email.
