Job Description

Peace House is dedicated to ending interpersonal violence and abuse and empowering survivors to heal and thrive by providing support services, safe housing, and prevention education. To fulfill our mission, Peace House offers specific Victim Services to all of our clients, including Case Management, Therapeutic Services, Advocacy and Crisis Intervention.

Salary: $20.00 -$22.00 DOE

Reports to: Director of Support Services

Job Summary: The Children’s Services Child Advocate is a critical part of the support services offered to families engaging in Children’s Services at Peace House. This position works directly with children of all ages, and their parents, to address the immediate needs of families impacted by interpersonal violence. In addition, this role supports families to the future and connects them with additional tools and resources to promote ongoing stability, growth, and success.

Alongside 1:1 work with children and parents; this position will arrange and oversee a schedule of engaging children’s activities and organize a cohort of volunteers to provide support with these activities. The Children’s Services Child Advocate will also establish community partnerships to connect children with other local enrichment programs. The Child Advocate will administer safety planning for all children engaged in any services at Peace House.

This is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position averaging 30 hours per week. The Children’s Services Case Manager will report directly to the Director of Support Services, will serve as an active member within the program and Peace House, and will perform the following duties and others as assigned. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Case Management

  • Offer child safety planning for all children in residence over the age of 3 or family safety planning as appropriate throughout their stay and per required timelines.
  • Provide child safety planning for community clients as referred.
  • Assess basic needs and connect families to state and local assistance programs.
  • Assist families to navigate systems such as CPS, Office of the Guardian ad litem, court orders, supervised visitation etc.
  • Support access to educational resources.
  • Provide parenting support and education on child development as required.

Activity Coordination

  • Create and supervise a weekly/monthly schedule of children’s activities onsite for a range of ages.
  • Develop and maintain a volunteer program to assist with children’s activities under staff supervision.
  • Establish relationships with community partners who can offer enrichment opportunities for children and facilitate access.

Relationships

  • Promote high ethical and professional standards in all relationships and activities.
  • Establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with agency staff and any other organizations and individuals important to the success of the agency’s work .
  • Establish, maintain, and provide ongoing evaluation of intra-staff communication on all case matters; propose and support ways to ensure effective communication amongst staff and collaborative support service providers.
  • Attend program and agency meetings as requested.

Community Resources and Partnerships

  • Maintain an up-to-date directory of child related community resources and ensure that this information is readily accessible to victims and staff.
  • Regularly meet with partnering agencies and community resources to clarify services and build inter-agency relationships.

Record Keeping and Client Files

  • Monitor accuracy and timeliness of client files in order to document services, maintain accountability, and ensure compliance with contracts, grants, and other funding sources.
  • Keep any other records necessary to ensure that work is conducted in accordance with agency, funding, and legal requirements.

Availability

  • Respond to client and shelter crises and assist staff at the shelter, as needed.
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Able to pass a background check as required for state licensing.
  • Sensitive to diversity and the unique challenges of dealing with vulnerable populations.
  • Experience working with children in a one-on-one and group settings.
  • Creative, enthusiastic, and flexible—open to change and learning.
  • Solution-focused and strengths based.
  • Experience of building collaborative partnerships.
  • Team player with an ability to work with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Computer literate.
  • Completes assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to stay task-focused and work independently, in addition to working collaboratively within a supportive team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual – Spanish and English speaking.
  • Experience in DV/SA advocacy field.
  • Training and/or experience in case management.
  • Ability to facilitate groups.
  • Experience managing volunteers.
  • Current First Aid and CPR – or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

JOB TYPE: Non-Exempt, Part- time (30 hours per week) with flexible scheduling.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Peace House utilizes databases such as Apricot, and other state reporting portals to track, document and monitor staff, volunteers and program data.

  • Occasional lifting, carrying and hauling of supplies 25 pounds and less; travel and attend offsite meetings.
